Kusuka ngonyaka wezi-2011 kuya kowezi-2015 inkampani yezindiza ibisenkingeni yokwehla njalo, lapho ibhanoyi livala ukusebenza kaningi ngenxa yokushoda kwezindiza. I-Air Tanzania yasungulwa ngempumelelo ngoMashi 2011.

Ngo-2016 futhi sekukhona uhulumeni omusha, uMengameli waseTanzania uJohn Magufuli wafunga wagomela ukuthi uzobuyisa inkampani yezindiza. NgoMeyi 2016, uhulumeni wamemezela izinhlelo zokuthenga izindiza ezimbili ngonyaka wezi-2016 nezindiza ezimbili ezengeziwe ngonyaka wezi-2017.[ Ngomhlaka 15 Septhemba 2016, umongameli waqoka uLadislaus Matindi njengomqondisi-jikelele we-Air Tanzania Company Limited.

Ngomhla ka-8 Julayi 2018, i-Air Tanzania yathumela iBoeing 787 Dreamliner, ezosatshalaliswa ezindizeni ezihamba phakathi kwamazwe. Zonke izindiza ezintsha ezisetshenziswa yinkampani yezindiza ziphethwe yiGovernment Flight Agency ebese ibaqashisela inkampani yezindiza.
